New Lights

Thanks to the Hobby Lobby clearance, we now have new lights up in our living room and dining room. The fans were not my favorite and since we hardly ever used them, we traded them out.

 

 

 

 

 

Having already walked down the clearance aisle, and finding nothing I could get through life without, I headed towards the front. I had no intention of even going down the lighting aisle, but I spotted a yellow clearance tag hanging off the light. I loved the light, so naturally I walked over to check it out. I figured it would probably still be one of those deals that would be left behind. They were originally $80 something and they were marked down to $20 something. What made the deal even sweeter was the gift card I had just received for Christmas. After recently pricing similar lights at Lowes, I found out this was a better deal than I originally thought.

 

Hubby had to do some electrical faniggleriggin'. They were originally the kind that had a cord to turn the light on, but I clearly did not want a big black cord going across my ceiling and down the wall to plug in to an electrical outlet. Hubs saved the day...again. ;)

 

They make the rooms feel more open because the fan spread out much further in diameter.

The Table Transfer

I shared on Instagram, a few months back, that I had moved our table into the "piano room" once we put down laminate flooring. I can not remember if I posted here, so just in case I did not, I moved our table into the "piano room." You're welcome. ;)

 

I liked the switch, but it took up the space we were used to having as a walk-thru. Brittany mentioned moving the table off to the side, but I couldn't try it until after the Christmas chaos was put back into place.

 

I'm kinda really liking it!

 

Of course, that meant I had to move some wall décor.

 

You probably remember my giant chalkboard that used to be in the kitchen.

 

Now I have to find something for that wall. It's a vicious cycle in this house, I'm tellin' ya!

 

 

We bought this table at a yard sale right after we were married. Hubs gave a it a fresh sanding and coat of stain last fall. Looks much better than my "wing-it" job. I'm pretty sure we've gotten our 10 bucks worth.

 

 

The toolbox was found in my hubby's grandparents' barn. Those trusty Ikea plants made great filler. BTW...they are $2 cheaper than last year...just a free plug. HA!

 

 If you're paying attention, you'll see a sneak peak of something else we switched up.

Hall Tree

Ok, I got this bench/hall tree right before we got married...at the goodwill. I love it, but I have such a hard time decorating it. I realize that it is supposed to serve a functional purpose, but I do not have room at my entrance. Nor do I rarely use things the correct way if we're being completely honest.

 

I recently moved it out from the hallway area into the piano room just for fun, kicks, and giggles. It needs a new paint job, but I'm still trying to decide if it's staying.

I stole some décor from my living room to play around with it, but I am struggling here. HA! I really like the piece and the bench helps store décor, but I just can't ever seem to get it right.

 

So, I'm gonna do some brainstorming on here and get ya'll's opinions.

Piano Room

Hobby Lobby clearance aisle did it again. It may or may not be a good thing that one is coming to town. OY! I spotted these mirrors and thought it would look really neat to put three side by side. I thought above my piano might work, but when I spread them out in the aisle, they looked too big. So, they stayed. I visited again a while later and they were still there, but I still wasn't sure if they would work. A few weeks later, I was back and the o' hubs was with me this time and he told me they should fit. So, since this was the 3rd time, I grabbed them.

 Wouldn't you know the clock was on the clearance aisle, too? And, I had 2 gift cards. Nicely done, Jenny. Nicely done.

 

 

 

The planter box was a $2 yard sale find. I am chomping at the bit to get started on the season again.

 

 

 

I'm thinking really hard about painting my piano. It was given to us and needs some TLC. What's your vote?

 

 

 

A Little Switcheroo

It all started by moving around a little décor and the whole vicious cycle began. You take from here, you move there. Now that space is bare, so you take from here and move there. Repeat and you have my method of madness down.

 

It gives you a fresh new look, though, without costing you a fresh new budget.

 

 

 

Signs of spring are starting to appear in my décor, as well! Bring it on!

 

 

Wooden Box Planters

It has been one of those weeks in the parsonage, so this is gonna be short and sweet.

 

These wooden box planters have been around blogville for several years. I had always wanted them, but did not know where they came from. A few years back I stumbled across them in TJMaxx, but I only had a space for one and just bought the one. I regretted that for a long time!

 

Well, wouldn't you know, a few weeks ago Décor Steals had them as their daily deal. Most of the time I think they're not really a "steal" for this yard sale loving gal, but this time it was actually reasonable. I think that might have been my quickest online purchase I've ever made. HA!

 

And, now, my house is starting to resemble a greenhouse. LOL.

 

 

 

I am fully aware that the greenery I chose probably does not resemble the actual herb listed. I am ok with that. My OCD has not quite reached that level.

 

I am also aware that this is the only type of plant I can keep "alive."

Christmas Time is Here

And, if I just got that song stuck in your head by making that my title, I apologize immensely. That song is on my list of "drives me bonkers." <----My hubby will testify to the fact that it doesn't take much to make that happen.

 

We have seen some awesome home tours on here from Brittany, Hannah, and Tricia. I thought about just skipping mine because you've already seen some great inspiration, but alas, I actually cleaned my house for the pics (or, in some cases scooted things out of the way) and I wanted to document the rarity.

 

I'd tell you to grab a cup of coffee with me like millions of bloggers do, but since I'm being honest here, I'd rather go grab a Coke slushie, or a Christmas cookie, or some peanut m&m's, or a bowl of Blue Bell ice cream. Whatever.

 

Welcome to our humble abode, where our budgets are thrifty, the messes are many, the floors are stickier, the laundry is higher, but our hearts are fuller.

 

 

Remember the post about the tradition of taking our kiddos' pic around the tree? The Parsonage Queen created me a pillow to represent that and I. Love. It.

 The plaid pillows and matching throw were made from a table cloth.

I found this spool thingymabob at a yard sale and turned it into a side table for the time being. The lamp came from a thrift store.

 The vintage bicycle basket came from a junk show via my SIL, tree from a yard sale, and books and galvanized tin from hubby's junk.

 I borrowed the basket from my SIL and planned my mantel around it.

 If you've followed my personal blog, you've seen the majority before.

 

Next we move into what I believe is supposed to be a dining room, but we use it as a catch-everything-we-don't-have-room-for-anywhere-else room. To be brief, the piano room.

The frame came from a thrift store, as did the lamps. The wreath is from Dollar Tree and a little scrawny, so I just put it with another scrawny wreath I had.

 The box is from a yard sale and the decorative balls came from Goodwill.

This built-in is also in the same room and holds our Christmas card station.

 

One of my favorite spots: 

It's a place that is walked by all the time, so it is a great reminder of the season's true meaning.

Next stop is the kitchen. 

 Bet you can't guess where I got the wreaths this summer...

I love this little spot, too. The lantern and fire truck came from hubby's stash, but the fire truck reminds me of my Dad.

Went all out for my chalkboard this year.

The Coke crate also came from hubby's junk. I think I'm seeing a pattern that hub's has too much junk. Since it's working in my favor, we'll let it slide for the time being.
