Breakfast Nook Gets a ReFresh

Wow. So, obviously, it's been one doozy of a summer. In June, we packed up the old parsonage, said goodbye to dear friends and family,  and moved from Alabama to south Louisiana. I'm just now starting to catch my breath again. This chick is getting way too old for moving! ;)

We absolutely love our new home and place of ministry, and have been very busy getting settled in and putting our own touches on the parsonage here. It's always fun to start with a fresh blank canvas, right?!

Over the next several posts, I'll share some before and afters and show you guys our progress so far. Because who doesn't love before and after photos?

This is the breakfast area before:
Simply painting the beadboard a nice fresh white brought the whole space back up to date from the 80's. Paint is just the bombdiggety. We used Sherwin Williams Olympus White on the walls and Bright White on the trim and beadboard.

And here is the after....

My vintage cabinet is also in this room, and it's a perfect match to the chairs.

I needed something big to hang on this wall, so I came up with this idea. I had this large Sugar tea towel, so I mounted it on two stained wood pieces, stapled a piece of rope to the back of it, and just like that I had myself a wall hanging. Since I already had the towel, the whole project cost me a whopping $2 for the sticks. (I used yard sign stakes from Walmart at $1 each, and cut off the pointed end.) I love me a cheap project!

The Table Transfer

I shared on Instagram, a few months back, that I had moved our table into the "piano room" once we put down laminate flooring. I can not remember if I posted here, so just in case I did not, I moved our table into the "piano room." You're welcome. ;)

I liked the switch, but it took up the space we were used to having as a walk-thru. Brittany mentioned moving the table off to the side, but I couldn't try it until after the Christmas chaos was put back into place.

I'm kinda really liking it!

Of course, that meant I had to move some wall décor.

You probably remember my giant chalkboard that used to be in the kitchen.

Now I have to find something for that wall. It's a vicious cycle in this house, I'm tellin' ya!

We bought this table at a yard sale right after we were married. Hubs gave a it a fresh sanding and coat of stain last fall. Looks much better than my "wing-it" job. I'm pretty sure we've gotten our 10 bucks worth.

The toolbox was found in my hubby's grandparents' barn. Those trusty Ikea plants made great filler. BTW...they are $2 cheaper than last year...just a free plug. HA!

If you're paying attention, you'll see a sneak peak of something else we switched up.

Sending spring thoughts,

Kitchen Flooring

Well, I cleaned my kitchen, so I thought I'd take some pictures to document the rarity. I wish I was kidding...

My favorite hubby got the new flooring put in. I. LOVE. IT. It's from Lowe's and I'm 99% sure it's called Harvest Chestnut. It's a laminate, but it has several colors and details to resemble an older hardwood. Which translates to, it helps hide the dirt! And, since the cleaning has already been documented as rare, this is a must.

Isn't it purdy?? Sigh...

Since we replaced the white linoleum with a darker color, it did close in the space a little more, but there is a lot of natural light in there, so it's all good.

I'm thinking that I eventually want to add an island with some bar stools. This would give me some more counter space to prep things and then we could take out the table and chairs. I have plans for hubby to build me a farmhouse table to go in the dining room/piano room. So many plans, so little time.

I had been wanting one of these scales FOREVER and Décor Steals finally had one as the deal of the day.

My latest yard sale purchase: $0.50 rolling pins. The lady asked what I was going to do with them thinking I had something crafty planned. Hubs told her, "Beat me with them." HA! We'll see how the farmhouse table persuasion goes and I'll let you know if his fortune came true. I kid, I kid! That dude is awesome!

Home Sweet Home

I am a completely hopelessly incurable home body. A good day to me is any day I don't have to go anywhere. I do love a good vacation, but I always love coming back home. So when I saw this sign recently, I knew it was for me. Home is my happy place.
I don't really even have a good spot for it, but when you see something you love, sometimes you just gotta create a spot for it!

Cheap Mirror Knockoff

I love the huge mirrors seen floating around Pinterest and Instagram that have a rounded top and framed sections.

I have yet to find one in my budget. So, when I saw these at Family Dollar for $12 I figured I could reach a compromise.
I knew there had to be a way to spray paint them even if it meant taping off the mirrors. The back came off, but there were about 39 screws in each one. No joke. Each section was an individual mirror. Oy! The fun part was putting them back together.

All that aside, I sprayed and then took a sander and gave it a pretty distressed look.

No matter how I took the pics, something in them looked crooked. I'm going to blame it on a older home and say the flooring is off. LOL. It's also in a small hallway area and I had to stand in the bathroom to get them.

As you can see, I moved my cabinet from the school room to here. Love it!

Heaven Sent

Tis the season for baby showers.

This past weekend I hosted a shower for a lady from our church. I snapped a couple of pics in case it might give someone else an idea. I didn't go "all out," but it still turned out festive.

Remember me sharing my spring mantel? Well, it was pink and girly looking and this was a boy theme, so I rearranged my mantel for only about the 3rd or 4th time this year. Hey, who's counting?

I made the pennant out of kraft cardstock and the Cricut. I just cut out some cloud shapes to separate the words.

I had to decorate a table for a baby shower a couple months ago at our homeschool group. I actually used my brain for once and made sure to do a theme I could save and use for this one. Sometimes I have it together. Most times I don't.

What's a party without some snacks?

Reason 254 to love HomeGoods;  because when you're waiting in line to check out there is a bunch of random items to browse. I glanced over and saw these cloud marshmallows and probably became a little too excited. I knew they went perfect with the theme and threw them in the cart. While I was getting everything together, it dawned on me that they would make a cute cupcake topper. I just stuck them with toothpicks, first.

I decided I liked my mantel this way and left it...minus the balloons.

Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice...

That's what little girls are made of!
I was SO happy to be able to make it halfway across the country to my very dear friend, Chari's baby shower. This little girl is a precious gift from Heaven and very much worth celebrating!

The mama-to-be loves daisies and pink, so we took that and ran with it. :)
Everything turned out cute as a button and sweet sweet sweet.

We are all so excited to meet this precious little one this summer!
