Girl's Room Redo

My little girly is not quite so little anymore. Many of her things had seen better days, so we decided it was time to upgrade her room. After giving her a firm no to an "Elsa" theme, she was pretty excited about doing the colors coral and mint green.

My first step in bedroom decorating is to find the bedding. We hunted high and low and never could find what we were looking for. I finally decided to just go with a white quilt (IKEA) and make her an accent throw in those colors (Hobby Lobby material). This room redo took waaaaaaaaaay longer than it should have because of that very last sentence. If it involves sewing, I'm the last person to jump in and get it done. HA!

I have wanted to attempt stripes for a long time, but could never decide where. I love them in here!

I knew I wanted to involve some fellow makers in this room redo. The polka dots are wall stickers from my friend Just the Frosting. They are super easy to use and peel easily off of your wall. She has oodles of designs, including quotes and customs.

I made the sign as the same as others from my Down Grace Lane. A friend had posted this quote on Facebook and I loved it. I want her soul to be beautiful with Jesus and we've already read this and talked about it some. I want it to be a reminder to her, as well as me.

I spray painted her old bookshelf to match.

The adorable little giraffe reminds me of my niece. My friend Theresa's Crochet Shop made it and has so many adorable others. Oh my! They are just all so stinkin' cute!

Isn't he just so keeeeeuuuute?!

For fun, kicks, and giggles, I even painted her closet door. It gives that side of the wall a nice pop of color without having to add much décor.

There are several of my maker friends on this wall. The cute wooden heart cutout is from Aces of Oregon. It matches perfectly. I got the frame around it at a yard sale and spray painted it to match. I love how it pulls out the heart.

The cute little bike art is from Details2Enjoy. I did a separate post on how it was put together. Another unique shop with lots of fun things!

I won the mason jar art in an IG giveaway from Kate's Crafty Heart. Super cute! She customized it with her name. Of course my daughter thought that was very cool since nothing has her name on it.

The "Fearfully & Wonderfully Made" is handpainted by Handcrafted Brunette. She is amazing and has so much cuteness in her shop.

All of these makers are on Instagram and I would encourage you to check them out.

The gumball machine was spray painted to match, but her little brother has rubbed some off of the top from trying to sneak in and help himself.

I'm kicking myself because I passed up a chandelier at a yard sale. That would have been so cool to spray paint and hang in here. I'm keeping my eye out. Maybe something better will come along.

On a humorous note: This quilt is massive and tucked in strategically to get it to lay right. We had revival coming, so I told her to sleep with her little brother in the next room. This way the bed stayed made. LOL! However, she has slept in there since.

So, we still have a pretty made bed.

Thank you to my maker friends for collaborating with me with your products.

Bye Bye Nursery....

...Hello big boy room! My youngest is 5, and the poor guy was still sleeping in a crib converted to toddler bed, so yeah, it was time. We had so much fun putting this space together. He loves fish, and anything having to do with ocean life, so when I saw this quilt set on Zulily, I knew it would be perfect for him.

This little guy has been thoroughly enjoying his big bed! It's so cute to see him in it, it makes him look so little. I found the vintage tube style bed on craigslist, and spray painted it a pretty aqua blue color. Oh my goodness, I just love it! It just makes the whole room.

We hung 3 vintage skateboards, that we got from various places, over his bed.
The Roll -n- Surf one is my absolute favorite. Love that gorgeous color!

I just gotta tell you, if you need good storage, this little storage unit is $37 at Walmart and you would not believe how big the cubed bins are, we've got tons of stuff in there! And it makes a perfect little nightstand. I was also thrilled to find the lamp, in the exact same color as the bed, at T.J. Maxx.

He has really become interested in drawing lately, so we hung a vintage chalkboard down low on the wall so he could have a drawing space. He has really been enjoying that. And it always makes me smile when I go in there and see his latest piece of art. I asked him to draw a picture on it before I took pictures for this post. He says, Sure! And then he proceeded to write a huge HO on there. He said it's an O and an H! I'm like yeah, but in that order I'm afraid it's not super appropriate for a blog post... LOL!

The big whale on the wall, the W, and the whale frame were all from Hobby Lobby, on sale or with a coupon, of course!

So that's it - a whale of a big boy room! It's always kinda sad when you put away all the sweet nursery things, but it's also fun to watch them grow up, too.

The Locker Room

I'm just gonna be brutally honest here, and tell ya - I have no idea why I'm posting this photo, other than these guys actually cleaned up their room, you can actually see the floor, and I felt the need to document that. That is all.

Now if they'll just leave it this way for more than 15 seconds, that'd be great. For once, putting their laundry away doesn't require steel toes and a hard hat.
 Boys. Gotta love 'em.

A Little Girl's Room

Another repost. Her room doesn't look like this now. We've taken several things out and decluttered some. She would like to have my old desk and paint it mint green, so there may be a room redo in the future.

Before:
After: Lots of hodgepodge in this room, but that's ok. :)

Back To School

It's that time of year again, although I'm not sure how. Anyone else's summer fly by?

So, I shared the office side last week, what else is there to do besides share the school side this week?!

I. Love. It.

Last year we used the desk that I have now transferred to the office. It wasn't a lot of room and I had decided I wanted to try a table this year. So, I scouted out the yard sales. In came this beauty...
I had first thought I'd spray paint the bottom, but the more I looked at it the more I decided I must of had a little bit of heat stroke from yard saling. I got two of these babies for $10...much to the owner's chagrin. We had stopped and I couldn't make up my mind. I asked the lady how much she wanted for them and she told me $10 a piece. I said ok, looked them over, couldn't decide, so we left. We hit up a few more sales and I kept questioning myself about them, so my patient hubby took me back. I asked the Lord if we were supposed to have them that they would still be there and that I could get them both for $10 instead. I showed up as they were closing. She was not there, but her hubby was. I told him what she had told me earlier and asked if I could get them both for $10. He told me his wife was out taking the signs down, but she'd be back in a minute and he didn't see any problem in it. She showed up and I asked her the same question. She said no, that they were $20 a piece. I told her that's not what you told me earlier. She acted like I was lying and couldn't believe she even said such a thing. So, I said thank-you and hopped back in the car. While we were waiting to back up and I was relaying what had just happened to my hubby, she flagged us down. I got out and she told me her hubby and told her to let me have them for the $10! I just about hugged that man. Not quite, but just about. :)

The wooden chairs came from another yard sale for $0.50.

Later on in the summer, my own precious hubby came home from a motor show and told me he bought me something. Well, my mind whirled a little because I couldn't imagine anything I'd want from there. HAHA! He said if I didn't want it, he would use it in the basement I went outside to look in the trunk and saw this.
He told the man he bought it from that his wife was probably going to steal it. You bet your sweet doggies I was going to steal it!! Anyone who knows me, knows I love cabinets with lots of drawers. One of these days I'm gonna score on an old library catalog...excuse me while I daydream.

Spray paint to the rescue...
He didn't have to do anything to the hardware except clean it up a little. He added a wood top and I about squealed. I seriously must need to get out more. The cute little cabinet beside it was also another yard sale find and it got a spray paint face lift, as well.
I might have also gotten the globe, books, typewriter, chalkboard, apple, slate, and ruler at yard sales, too. The typewriter might have been $1. The utensil holder and kid's pictures came from a thrift store. Fist bump! I made the pennant on the chalkboard out of a piece of scrapbook paper.

Have I mentioned I love yard sales and thrifting? You didn't catch that? HA!
Oh. And that ceiling light there in the last picture...all together now...YARD SALE!

Boys Room Update

My little men are growing up.
Sometimes it makes me sad that my babies are grown up, but then, they've turned into such sweet and smart boys, and they're so much fun to be around, that I'm proud of what they're becoming.
But ANYWAY...
(forgive this mama for getting all sentimental and losing her train of thought there...)
The point is, they've grown out of their cute little cowboy room. The room was also in serious need of repair, so we gave it a total overhaul. New ceiling, walls, paint, everything. Jackson's only request was that I use navy blue in there somehow because that's his favorite color. So, we took that and ran with it.

This is the before pic... It was cute when they were little, and loved to dress up in their hats and boots and play cowboys and Indians.
(But at ages 9 and 11, they're faaaaar to mature for that now, dontcha know...)
Bye Bye little Cowpoke's Bunkhouse!

And here's the new and improved,
suitable-for-mature-young-men
 room.
The lamp over the bed was a Pottery Barn item that I scored for cheap  on eBay, I just put a new shade on it. The curtains were made from twin sheets, cheap and easy. The bedding was a bargain from Target, and I made the throw pillows with some fabric I had in my stash.

These wire baskets from Hobby Lobby makes a perfect place for the guys to stash some bed time reading material.

I love how the plank ceiling turned out - I wish I could do all our ceilings like this. But my poor hubby would have a mild heart attack I'm sure... We tried to make the ceiling fan look a bit more masculine by adding the cage style covers over the lights. I got them online for 3.99 each at 1000bulbs.com

The boys actually got a painting lesson, and they helped paint their dressers. Gotta make good little DIY-ers out of them!

The vintage desk was given to them, and I just love it. The indoor outdoor rug was from Target.
The floors in this room are over 100 years old, and as far as I know, they've never been refinished. Things like that just get my mind to whirling...how many other little kids have played on them...if only these floors could talk, I'm sure there'd be lots of interesting stories and memories.

Jackson was shopping with me in TJ Maxx. He was actually quite bored, trying to entertain himself while I shopped, then he got all excited and said look Mom, there's some cool letters, and it's a J and a C, perfect for our room! I was so proud. Made my day. Of course I HAD to get them. Then later, I found the "&" on a different shelf, and we both got excited. Haha!

We found the lockers on craigslist, and refinished them. I can't seem to locate the before pic, but they were an ugly dull blue color. These things are a lifesaver. The big boys can put their prized lego creations in there, and it's safe from little brother, or as they like to call him, Taz.

The amount of storage in these things is amazing. It's so much easier to keep their room organized with these. Besides that, they're just so COOL!

I had fun putting this room together for them, and the they are super thrilled with it. Happy kids, happy mama!
